Setting up Dynamic Reviews in checkout

Display real product reviews in checkout — synced from Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me, REVIEWS.io, or via CSV

Dynamic Reviews displays real product reviews — star ratings and review counts — directly inside checkout. PDQ pulls reviews from your existing review platform and matches them to whatever's in the shopper's cart. Social proof at the moment of purchase, no third-party widget needed.

Before you start: connect your review platform

Dynamic Reviews needs a connection to your review app. PDQ supports four platforms: Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me, and REVIEWS.io.

To connect:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations in PDQ.

  2. Find your review platform and click into it.

  3. Click Connect in the top-right.

  4. Enter your platform's API key or App Key (in your review app's account or API settings).

  5. Save.

Once connected, your platform appears as a selectable option when setting up the extension.

Step 1: Create the extension

In the left sidebar, go to Convert > Extensions. Click New Extension and select Dynamic Reviews.

Step 2: Name your extension

  • Internal Name — e.g. "Dynamic Reviews — Okendo".

  • Internal Description — optional.

Both are for your reference only.

Step 3: Choose your import method

Two ways to bring reviews in:

  • CSV Upload — upload a CSV manually. PDQ provides a downloadable template. Your CSV must contain only 1 review per product ID.

  • Direct Integration — connect via API to sync reviews automatically and in real time. Recommended if you're using Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me, or REVIEWS.io.

For Direct Integration, select your connected platform from the list. If nothing's there, head to Settings > Integrations and connect it first.

Step 4: Configure review rules (Direct Integration only)

These rules control which reviews get pulled and displayed. They apply only to Carousel and List layouts — not Rating Badge.

  • Minimum Star Rating — toggle on to only show reviews at or above a threshold (e.g. 4 stars and above).

  • Fallback Settings — toggle on to set fallback text for products with no reviews.

  • Reviews To Display — max number of reviews per product. Default: 3.

Step 5: Set your appearance

Click the Appearance tab and pick a layout:

  • Rating Badge (recommended) — star rating + review count beneath each product. Clean and minimal. Renders inside the cart line items.

  • Review Carousel — standalone carousel of full review cards.

  • Review List — full reviews stacked in a single section.

Under Configure, choose what to show:

  • Stars — only the star rating.

  • Number of Reviews — only the review count.

  • Both — stars and review count.

Under Design, set Star Color to match your brand.

Step 6: Set display conditions (optional)

Click the Display Conditions tab to restrict by product, cart value, customer segment, and more. Leave empty to show reviews to all shoppers.

Step 7: Save and connect to Shopify

Click Save. Copy your Dynamic Reviews Token from the top of the Settings tab and add it to your Shopify checkout:

  1. In Shopify, go to Settings > Checkout.

  2. Click into the checkout you're using.

  3. Click Add block and select the PDQ block.

  4. Paste your Dynamic Reviews Token where prompted.

For Rating Badge specifically, the block must be placed inside the Items in cart component — not above or below it. See PDQ Dynamic Reviews — Shopify setup for the exact placement details.

Tips

  • Pair Dynamic Reviews with Direct Integration for hands-off syncing — no CSV maintenance, no stale data.

  • The Rating Badge is the highest-converting layout for most stores. Carousels look great, but inline social proof at the line-item level moves the needle more.

  • Set Minimum Star Rating to 4+ to protect the experience without manually curating reviews.

  • If a review is long, shoppers see a "See more" link that expands the full text inline — no truncation worries.
