Dynamic Reviews is a PDQ checkout extension that displays real product reviews, including star ratings and review counts, directly inside your checkout. Showing social proof at the moment of purchase helps reduce hesitation and increase conversion. PDQ pulls your existing reviews from your review platform and displays them automatically next to each product in the order summary.
Before you begin: connect your review platform
If you plan to use Direct Integration, Dynamic Reviews requires a connection to your existing review app. PDQ supports four platforms: Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me, and REVIEWS.io.
If you prefer to use CSV Upload instead, you can skip this step entirely and go straight to setting up the extension.
To connect your review platform:
In PDQ, go to Settings > Integrations.
Find your review platform and click on it.
Click Connect in the top right.
Enter your platform's API key or App Key (found in your review app's account or API settings).
Save: your integration is now active.
Once connected, your platform will be available to select when setting up the Dynamic Reviews extension.
Step 1: Create the extension
In the left sidebar, go to Convert > Extensions. Click New Extension and select Dynamic Reviews.
Step 2: Name your extension
Give it an Internal Name and optional Internal Description to help you identify it later (e.g. "Dynamic Reviews - Okendo").
Step 3: Choose your import method
PDQ offers two ways to bring in your review data:
CSV Upload: upload a CSV file with your product reviews manually. PDQ provides a downloadable template to format your data correctly.
To set up via CSV Upload:
Click Download Template to get PDQ's pre-formatted CSV file.
Fill in your review data using the following required columns:
product_id — the unique identifier for the product (must match your Shopify product IDs).
product_name — the display name of the product.
review_star_rating — the star rating for the individual review (e.g. 4.5).
review_text — the written review content.
reviewer_name — the name of the reviewer.
average_rating — the overall average star rating across all reviews for that product.
product_number_of_reviews — the total number of reviews for that product.
Important: your CSV must contain only 1 row per product ID.
Once your file is ready, upload it using the Upload File area.
Direct Integration — connect via API to automatically sync reviews from your review platform in real time. This is the recommended method if you're using Okendo, Yotpo, Judge.me, or REVIEWS.io.
If you choose Direct Integration, select your connected platform from the list. If no platform appears, go back to Settings > Integrations and connect it first.
Step 4: Configure review rules (Direct Integration only)
Review Rules let you control which reviews get pulled and displayed. These rules only apply to Carousel and List layout styles.
Minimum Star Rating — toggle on to only show reviews at or above a certain star rating (e.g. 4 stars and above).
Fallback Settings — toggle on to define a fallback text to display for products that have no reviews.
Reviews To Display — set the maximum number of reviews to show per product (default: 3).
Step 5: Set your appearance
Go to the Appearance tab and choose your layout style:
Rating Badge (recommended) — displays star rating and review count beneath each product. Clean and minimal.
Review Carousel — a standalone carousel that showcases full reviews.
Review List — displays all reviews in a single stacked section.
Under Configure, choose what to show:
Stars — show only the star rating.
Number of Reviews — show only the review count.
Both — show stars and review count together.
Under Design, set your Star Color to match your brand.
Step 6: Set display conditions (optional)
Go to the Display Conditions tab to add rules that control when the extension appears, for example, only for specific products, cart values, or customer types. Leave this empty to show reviews to all customers.
Step 7: Save and connect to Shopify
Click Save. Then copy your Dynamic Reviews Token from the top of the Settings tab and add it to your Shopify checkout:
In Shopify, go to Settings > Checkout.
Click the checkout you want to add it to.
Click Add block and select the PDQ block.
Paste your Dynamic Reviews Token where prompted.
Your Dynamic Reviews extension is now live in checkout.
Tips
Pair Dynamic Reviews with Direct Integration for hands-off syncing — no CSV maintenance, no stale data.
The Rating Badge is the highest-converting layout for most stores. Carousels look great, but inline social proof at the line-item level moves the needle more.
Set Minimum Star Rating to 4+ to protect the experience without manually curating reviews.
If a review is long, shoppers see a "See more" link that expands the full text inline, no truncation worries.
