Shipping Rate Groups let you control which shipping methods are shown to which shoppers at checkout. Each group has its own delivery methods, targeting rules (segments), and live status — so you can present different shipping setups to different customers without rebuilding methods from scratch.
Where to find it
Go to Convert > Shipping Rate Groups in the left sidebar. The page is split into two areas:
Left panel — list of all your checkout groups.
Right panel — configuration details for the selected group.
To add a new group, click Add checkout group in the top-right corner.
Reading the group list
Each group in the left panel shows a status icon that tells you both whether the group is live and whether it has segments configured:
Full green circle — live, no segments. Typically the fallback group.
Half green circle — live, has segments configured.
Half grey circle — not live, has segments configured.
Full grey circle — not live, no segments.
Click a group name to open its details and settings in the right panel.
Managing a group
Each group has a ⋯ (three-dot) menu at the top right of the detail panel. Options:
Disable / Enable — toggle live status.
Add segment — add a new targeting segment.
Duplicate — create a copy of the group.
Rename — change the display name.
Settings — advanced configuration.
Copy test ID — copy the group's ID for testing purposes.
Segments
Segments define which shoppers see this group during checkout. Only one group is shown per checkout session — the one whose segments best match the shopper.
Each group can have multiple segments. The more segments within a group that match the current shopper or session, the higher priority that group gets. If you have several live groups, the one with the most matching segments wins.
Each segment can include rules like customer order count, traffic source, and more. Use the ⋯ menu on the segment row to rename or delete it.
To add a segment, use Add segment from the group's three-dot menu, or click + Add segment within the group detail panel.
Delivery Methods
Within each group, the Delivery Methods section manages the shipping options shown at checkout. You can:
Click + Add Delivery Method to create a new shipping rate inside this group. See Setting up shipping methods for the full method-level walkthrough.
Use Bulk Edit to update multiple methods at once.
Filter by type or status using the dropdowns.
Enable or disable individual methods using the toggle.
Edit, duplicate, or delete via each method's own ⋯ menu.
Each method shows its internal name, name shown in checkout, display conditions, and rate.
Fallback rate
At the top of the methods list, you'll see a Fallback rate. This is the rate shown if no other method matches the shopper's cart or location. Always set one — it's the safety net that prevents shoppers from getting stuck without any shipping option.
Tips
Keep one fallback group with no segments as your safety net. Every store should have one.
For A/B tests on shipping rates, build the variant groups here first. See Setting up a Shipping Rates A/B Test.
"Most matching segments wins" means more granular groups beat broader ones. Keep that in mind when stacking segments.
