Adding PDQ shipping to a Shopify shipping zone

Make sure PDQ rates and A/B tests apply to every country you sell in

If PDQ rates aren't showing at checkout for a specific country, or an A/B test isn't applying to a region, the most common cause is that the pdq-shipping carrier service isn't enabled in that Shopify shipping zone. Shopify only asks PDQ for rates in zones where the app is registered - so any zone missing it will show only static manual rates and bypass PDQ entirely.

Here's how to confirm the setup and add pdq-shipping to a zone.

Check which zones already have it

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Shipping and delivery and open your shipping profile.

For each country/zone, look for a line labelled pdq-shipping (Rates provided by app) with the Calculated badge.

If a zone is missing that line, PDQ isn't being queried for that destination — rates and A/B tests won't apply there.

Add pdq-shipping to a zone

  1. In the zone, click Add shipping option → Add shipping rate.

  2. Set Rate type to Carrier or app calculated.

  3. Under Carrier or app, select pdq-shipping (Rates provided by app).

  4. Under Shipping services, pick the available service(s) — at minimum, Standard Delivery 🚚.

  5. Tick Automatically include new services when they become available so any new services PDQ registers for this zone appear without manual updates.

  6. Leave Handling fee at 0 unless you charge one.

  7. Click Done, then Save.

Verify it's working

After adding the app to the zone, run a quick checkout in an incognito window using a real shipping address in that country. You should see PDQ-served rates at the shipping step.

If you have an active shipping-rate A/B test, new orders from that zone will now carry the standard A/B test attributes (__pdq_ab_variant, PDQ ABTest Group Name, PDQ ABTest Group Id, PDQ ABTest Variant). You can confirm by opening any new order in Shopify admin and checking the Additional details panel.

📌 Note: the Shipping services dropdown only shows the service codes PDQ has registered for that specific zone, so newer zones may show only Standard Delivery 🚚 at first - that's normal. The actual rates shown at checkout (Standard, Express, VIP, plus any A/B test variants) come from your PDQ configuration at runtime, so the dropdown doesn't limit what customers see.
