Adding extra processing (handling) days to shipping methods

Temporarily push delivery dates later when your backlog is packed -without changing rates

Extra Processing Time adds extra handling days to the delivery dates shown at checkout. Use it when your fulfillment backlog is packed and you need the estimates to reflect the added handling time - instead of promising dates you can't hit. (The panel's own description: "Add extra handling days to adjust delivery dates when your backlog is packed.")

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Checkout.

  2. Scroll to the Extra processing time panel (it sits between Additional plugins and Checkout Prioritization) and click Manage.

  3. Under Add, enter the number and choose the unit - day(s) or hours.

  4. Under For the following methods, tick Check All Methods, or select just the methods the delay should apply to (e.g. Free Shipping, Express, Expedited, Standard).

  5. Click Save - the status changes from Inactive to Active. (Cancel or ✕ to discard.)

How it behaves

  • The extra time is added on top of each selected method's normal transit time - it doesn't replace it.

  • It affects only the delivery estimate shown at checkout - not your rates or the methods themselves.

  • It applies going forward from when you save; only ticked methods are affected (unticked ones keep their standard estimate).

Verify the change

Reopen Settings → Checkout → Extra processing time, confirm it shows Active, then check a preview or live checkout to see the estimate on the affected methods shift later by the amount you set.

📌 Tip: to slow only your economy methods, leave Check All Methods off and pick just those (e.g. Free Shipping and Standard).

📌 This vs. base processing time: Extra Processing Time is a temporary, store-wide bump for backlogs. For permanent prep time set per method or per product/variant, use Processing time in Delivery Promise instead.
