Most "can you change my order?" emails happen in the first few minutes after checkout. PDQ's Post-Purchase feature hands that back to the customer: for a window you define, they can edit their own order - change a variant, add items, fix the shipping address - with no help from your team. It cuts support volume, reduces returns, and even opens a post-purchase upsell. You stay in full control of what can be changed and for how long.
What you can measure
The top of the page shows four metrics (default Last 30 days):
Impressions - how many customers were shown the edit option
Edits Completed - how many finished an edit
Net Revenue Change - net dollar impact of all edits (adds, removals, upsells)
Edit Engagement Rate - % of customers who saw the option and acted
Settings tab - the core rules
Order edit window - how long customers can edit after checkout, set in minutes, hours, or days. Orders can never be edited once marked Fulfilled in Shopify, regardless of the window.
Extend for Weekends & Holidays - pushes the window into the next business day for orders placed on a weekend or holiday.
Discount Code Settings
Keep Discounts In Sync With Order Edits - keeps discounts accurate as customers edit: new items get their checkout discounts, and codes that stop qualifying are removed.
Shopify Logic
Follow Shopify Flow - any Shopify Flow automations you've already set up continue to apply to edited orders.
Shipping Rate Recalculation - recalculates shipping whenever a customer makes a qualifying change.
⚠️ Not supported for multi-origin orders.
Allow Shipping Downgrades - when off, customers can't switch to a cheaper method to get a refund.
Eligible shipping methods - All shipping methods, Exact match by name, or Keyword-based matching.
Minimum charge threshold - only charge the customer when the increase is at least this much (smaller increases are absorbed). Set to
$0to always charge.
Order Edits tab - what customers can change
General
Show Order Editing Extension - master toggle for the whole editing UI.
Allow Item Removal & Refund - customers remove items; refunds go automatically to the original payment method.
Unpaid Edits Handling - what happens if a customer makes changes but doesn't pay before the window closes:
Roll back unpaid changes to the last paid state (recommended) - the order reverts cleanly.
Keep unpaid changes in the customer's order - changes stay; be aware this can leave a manual refund owed (removed item, unpaid) or money owed to you (added item, unpaid), unless Allow Item Removal & Refund is handling refunds automatically.
Product - toggle each on/off:
Change Product Option (variant - size, colour) · Change Item Quantity · Add Products · Add/Edit Order Note · Allow Order Cancellation · Allow Edits Across Warehouses · Allow Out-of-Stock Items · Allow Apply Discount Code
⚠️ Change Item Quantity note (in-product): shipping fees aren't recalculated on quantity edits unless Shipping Rate Recalculation is on - new items ship at the original rate, which may not match actual cost.
Customer details - toggle each on/off:
Change Shipping Details · Edit Customer Phone Number · Edit Customer Email · Allow Changing Destination Country · Allow Tax Recalculation (adjusts taxes on address changes; may remove custom product details like gift messages or personalization)
Display Conditions - at the bottom, Add Rule Group to control when editing is shown (e.g. Cart value is more than or equal to $10; or exclude by product tag, SKU, or subscription selling plan). Orders matching an exclusion won't see the editing extension.
Address Validation tab
Automatically checks the shipping address after checkout and, when it finds an issue, shows the customer a Suggested vs. Current address to choose from before the parcel ships - cutting failed deliveries and address-fix tickets.
Configurations - turn Address Validation on/off. The correction window follows the edit time limit set on the Settings tab.
Flagged Orders - a searchable table of every checked order with a status: Corrected, Pending, Kept Original, or Expired, plus the corrected address.
Post-Purchase Upsell (in order editing)
The Preview panel also shows a product-recommendation carousel at the point of order editing - each product has a price and an Add to order button, configured separately under the Post-Purchase Upsell tab.
This is different from One-Click Upsell, the one-tap Add/Swap offer shown on the thank-you page. See Setting up One-Click Upsell (post-purchase).
Good to know
Run the feature in Test Mode to validate your setup before going live, without touching real orders.
The Preview panel (right side) shows exactly what customers see; toggle Desktop/Mobile or open a live preview in Shopify.
