PDQ handles international checkout much like domestic - with fixed or live rates - plus the extra settings carriers require for cross-border shipments (customs, incoterms, tax IDs). Set these up so international orders quote correctly and can be fulfilled without getting stuck.
1. Configure your International Settings
Go to Settings → International and set your defaults:
Incoterm (e.g. DDP or DDU) - who covers duties and taxes.
Tax IDs - your registered tax / EORI / IOSS identifiers, as applicable.
Any other cross-border defaults your carriers require.
📌 Important: until your International Settings are configured, you will not be able to setup International delivery methods. Additionally, international orders are held as unverified. YPDQ runs four checks before an international order is ready to fulfill: (1) International Settings configured, (2) the order has an email, (3) the order has a phone number, and (4) every item has a weight. Make sure your products carry weights and your checkout collects phone and email.
2. Set up your international rates
International shipping methods work like domestic ones - you can offer fixed rates or live carrier rates. Create your international methods in Shipping Rate Groups and make sure the destination countries are included.
📌 Make sure pdq-shipping is enabled in the Shopify shipping zones for every country you sell to, or PDQ won't be queried for those destinations (see "Adding PDQ shipping to a Shopify shipping zone").
3. Customs declaration
Carriers require a customs declaration describing what's in the box. By default, PDQ builds it from your International Settings. You can override the defaults when needed:
Per order - override the customs declaration for a single order.
Per product - set customs details (e.g. HS code, country of origin, description) on a product so they carry through automatically.
4. Fulfilment: the commercial invoice
International shipments include an extra document - the Commercial Invoice - generated from your customs declaration and printed alongside the label. Note that domestic and international orders can't be batched together, so batch your international orders separately.
