Getting your rates to show in checkout

Connect your PDQ rates to Shopify's checkout and remove duplicate Shopify rates.

Before you begin - check your Shopify plan. PDQ delivers your rates to checkout using Shopify's third-party (carrier/app) calculated rates, which are available on:

  • Advanced and Plus - included.

  • Grow (Shopify's mid-tier plan) - switch to annual billing to activate it automatically, or add it for an extra monthly fee.

  • Basic and Starter - not supported; you'll need to upgrade.

If you don't see a "Carrier or app calculated" rate option in Shopify, your plan is almost always the reason. (Shopify: third-party carrier-calculated shipping)

Setting up your delivery methods increases conversion, shows shoppers the right options for their order and destination, and - because each method carries a delivery date - makes on-time delivery easy. 👇

Add your delivery methods in PDQ

A new PDQ account starts empty - no delivery methods or checkout groups are created for you, so you'll set them up from scratch. In PrettyDamnQuick, open Shipping Rate Groups, create a checkout group if you don't have one, then add at least one delivery method. Once a method is active, it appears in your checkout automatically.

See Shipping Rate Groups and Setting up shipping methods to build your first ones.

Confirm PDQ is on your Shopify zones, and remove duplicate rates

Shopify organizes rates into shipping profiles. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery, and under Shipping profiles open your profile (e.g. General profile). In each shipping zone:

  • You should see pdq-shipping (via app) with a Calculated badge - that's PDQ serving your rates. If a zone doesn't show it, add it first (see [Adding PDQ shipping to a Shopify shipping zone]).

  • Delete any manual Shopify rate in the zone (e.g. "Standard · 3–5 business days · $10.00") via the ⋯ menu → Delete, so only pdq-shipping (via app) remains -otherwise shoppers see duplicate options.

Repeat for every zone (Domestic, International, etc.).

Set your safety-net rates

Two safeguards make sure a shopper always sees a shipping rate:

PDQ fallback rate - shown when none of your PDQ delivery methods apply to an order (for example, an order shipping to a state none of your methods cover). It appears as a regular rate, and you can name it whatever you would like and set it at the amount you like. Turn it on in your PDQ Delivery Methods and enter your fallback amount. See Fallback shipping rates.

Shopify backup rate - a deeper safety net that fires only if PDQ can't return any rates at all (e.g. a brief outage). Shopify applies this automatically wherever you use app/carrier rates - there's nothing to set up or turn on. (Shopify: backup rates)
