Why do Apple Pay / Shop Pay show a different (or fallback) shipping rate?

Express wallets send only a partial address

Express wallets hand over only a partial address (ZIP, city, state, country - no street or name) until after payment. With incomplete data, PDQ sometimes can't run a full live rate calculation and serves a cached or fallback rate, which can differ from what a card shopper sees.

What to know:

  • This is a Shopify platform limitation with express wallets, not a PDQ misconfiguration.

  • It most often surfaces on oversized/multi-origin carts, where the correct rate depends on the full address.

  • Card and Shop Pay-with-full-address checkouts calculate normally.

💡 If a specific wallet order was charged the wrong method, share the order number with support - we can confirm from the logs whether the wallet skipped live calculation.
